For example, in the Netherlands, biosimilars for Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)* were able to reduce the country's purchasing price by nearly one-third (-28%).¹ Over five years, cost savings were average €9,850 per CD patient and €2,250 per UC patient.¹ Together, this yielded about €493 million in total cost savings.¹ With costs driven down for a disease area by nearly a third, biosimilars are one of the leading ways to drive access to high-quality care and medicines at significantly reduced costs for individuals and payors. Therefore, the EMA, WHO, and other regulatory authorities and international organisations support the entrance of biosimilars into a market for their cost saving impact and potential to provide greater access to biologic medicines.²
